The team that drives our mission

Sushmita Thapa | Executive Director

Sushmita Thapa is a dedicated social sector professional whose career reflects a deep commitment to the welfare and empowerment of vulnerable communities—especially children. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, a Master’s in Gender Studies, and an additional Master’s in Psychology. This strong academic foundation provides her with a rich interdisciplinary perspective on human development, social equity, and mental health. With over a decade of experience in child counseling, Sushmita has worked extensively with underprivileged and at-risk children, offering emotional support, guidance, and advocacy to help them overcome adversity. Her expertise also includes crisis intervention. She served as a counselor at one of Nepal’s leading government mental health institutions, where she played a vital role in the suicide prevention helpline—providing life-saving support to individuals in crisis.

Sushmita’s journey with Nepal Orphans Home began in 2008 when she joined as the Director of Volunteer Nepal. In that role, she managed both international and local volunteer programs, fostering cross-cultural exchange and mobilizing resources to support education, healthcare, and community development initiatives. After gaining further professional and academic experience, she rejoined Papa’s House in 2023, bringing with her a renewed commitment and deeper expertise. As Executive Director, Sushmita now oversees organizational strategy, program implementation, and day-to-day operations—ensuring that every initiative aligns with Papa’s House’s mission to create brighter futures for disadvantaged children. Her blend of academic insight, hands-on counseling experience, and strong leadership continues to make her an invaluable asset to the organization and the communities it serves.

Jesika Maharjan | Assistant Director

Jesika Maharjan has been serving as the Assistant Director at Papa’s House for the past two years, bringing with her a strong background in social and community development. Her journey in this field began during her undergraduate studies, where she worked with children in government schools and discovered a passion for supporting young learners. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies and a Master’s degree in Gender Studies—an academic combination that has given her a broad understanding of societal challenges, equity, and inclusion. Her work with various social organizations has deepened her skills in program management, child development, and community engagement. At Papa’s House, Jesika is dedicated to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child and woman feels empowered to reach their full potential. Through program oversight, one-on-one guidance, and active involvement in daily operations, she helps foster a safe and supportive space that encourages learning, confidence, and personal growth.

Her work reflects a strong commitment to holistic development, gender equity, and the mission of Papa’s House: to provide care, education, and opportunity to those who need it most.

Rabindra Sanjyal | Accountant & BPS Outreach Program Manager

Rabindra Sanjyal was born and raised in the remote district of Kalikot, where access to quality education, nutritious food, healthcare, and transportation was extremely limited. Growing up in such challenging conditions, pursuing dreams often felt out of reach—but his determination to learn and grow never faded. In 2008, Rabindra’s life changed when he came to Kathmandu and joined Papa’s House. What began as a place of refuge quickly became a true family. He spent nearly 12 years at Papa’s House as a student, receiving the love, care, and guidance that helped shape his future. With the organization’s unwavering support, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies—an achievement he once thought impossible. After completing his education, Rabindra continued his journey with Papa’s House, serving for nine years as both an Accountant and the BPS Outreach Program Manager. In this role, he supports essential programs, manages resources, and gives back to the very community that helped raise him.

From the hills of Kalikot to building a career in Kathmandu, Rabindra’s journey is a powerful testament to how love, opportunity, and support can transform a life.
